Cutting energy bills doesn't require a major renovation. The biggest savings come from stopping waste — sealing leaks, insulating, and using systems smarter — and most of it is cheap or free.

Seal and insulate

Air leaks around doors, windows, and the attic hatch let heated and cooled air escape. Weatherstripping, caulking, and topping up attic insulation are the highest-return upgrades for comfort and cost.

Heat and cool smarter

Set back the thermostat when asleep or away, keep the furnace filter clean, and service heating and cooling annually. A few degrees of setback over a season adds up significantly.

Cut everyday waste

Switch to LED bulbs, wash clothes in cold water, lower the water heater to a sensible temperature, and unplug or power-strip electronics that draw standby power. Individually small, together meaningful.

Upgrade strategically

When appliances, windows, or heating systems are due for replacement, choosing efficient models pays back over their life — and rebates often help. Replace based on efficiency, not just price.
